A base grid to build on, a logo grid to reveal how the mark is built, and a clear space guide to tell the client where it can breathe.

Base grids

Square, isometric, hexagonal or golden ratio. Set the scale, and for the golden ratio the margin, and the grid lands on its own layer, colour coded, above your artwork. Isometric is drawn at 30 degrees each way with the verticals at the height of an equilateral triangle.

Logo grid

Anchors, handles, outlines and gridlines, generated from the paths of the selected mark, each on its own layer with its own colour, stroke and size. Turn on circular trajectories and Anchr fits circles to your curves, all of them or only the largest, with a sensitivity you choose.

Clear space guide

Select the logomark, or the mark and the logotype together. Anchr takes X from the larger dimension of the reference, or from the value you type in pixels, centimetres or inches, then draws the exclusion zone, the optimum clear space at X/2 and the minimum at X/4 as dashed zones.

How it works.

  1. Select the mark

    One group for a grid, one or two groups for the clear space guide. Anchr Grid never edits the selection; it reads it.

  2. Choose what to draw

    A base grid type, or any mix of anchors, handles, outlines, gridlines and circular trajectories. Colours, stroke widths and sizes are under Customize.

  3. Generate

    Everything lands on named layers at the top of the stack: Square Grid, Anchors, Handles, Outlines, Gridlines, Circular Trajectories, Exclusion Zone (X), Optimum Clearspace (X/2), Minimum Clearspace (X/4).

  4. Make Guides

    One click converts the grid layers into native Illustrator guides, so they snap, lock and stay out of your exports.

What ends up in your file.

Layers
One per element, named, colour coded, at the top of the layer stack.
Your artwork
Untouched. Delete the layers and the document is exactly as it was.
Styling
Fill, stroke colour, stroke width and size per element, plus a gridlines sensitivity level.
Clear space units
Logomark (the larger dimension of the reference group), pixels, centimetres or inches.
Two groups
Invert Components picks which of the two selected groups is the reference for X.
Guides
Native Illustrator guides, one click, from any of the four base grid layers.

Questions designers ask.

What is a logo construction grid?
A drawing of the geometry behind a logo: the base grid it sits on, the anchors and handles of its curves, the circles its arcs follow, the lines its edges align to. Designers use it to check consistency while refining a mark, and to show the client that the logo was built rather than drawn.
Does Anchr Grid modify my logo?
No. It reads the selected paths and draws on new layers. Nothing in the selection is moved, recoloured or converted.
How much clear space should a logo have?
There is no universal number. The convention that survives scaling is a zone measured from a part of the mark itself, such as the height of the logomark or of a capital letter. Anchr Grid uses the larger dimension of the reference group as X, then draws the optimum zone at X/2 and the minimum at X/4, so the rule is documented as a proportion, not as a number of pixels.
Can I put the grid in the brand guidelines?
Yes. The layers are ordinary vector artwork: keep them in the file, export the artboard, or place it in the document Anchr Guide generates.
Does it work on a wordmark?
Yes. Select the logotype group. Anchors, handles and outlines follow every path, letters included, and the clear space guide can take the mark and the wordmark together.
